Lightening round…

HighEdWeb 2008 was amazing.

I’m glad it’s been podcast or I’d be in trouble since I was running around like a crazy person pretty much the whole time. Met some really wonderful people…shout out to my peeps.

WP update

I just updated to WP 2.6.2. Been using it at work since release, but I tend to be slow to do things with Eironae. I also applied a new theme and installed a Twitter plugin since I’ve now become officially addicted.

HighEdWebDev lite

The presentations are up, so if you missed the conference, you can at least get the gui center. Get it…gui center…I KILL ME! Thanks tons to Lori Packer for getting that done so quickly (and check out her blog for the fun pics I took of her at the conference).

That’s the end – HEWD Day 5

subtitle: Disjointed and sleep deprived.

It’s all over. We’ve packed up the boxes and tabulated the results and eaten our final meal together. I’ve posted ‘Post Mortem’ photos on Flickr, but only a few.

I did manage to go purchase luggage. Go me. Now hopefully I will make it to Shreveport with all the items I put into said luggage. It would be nice.

I sat in on a post-conference session on usability methods for higher education. I’ll try to remember enough of it tomorrow to post something coherent and intelligent, which would admittedly be a first.

I did find out something slighly surreal today. Karine Joly (of CollegeWebEditor fame) reads my blog and knew who I was (i.e. Eironae) as soon as she saw my name tag. So, since she’s effectively my only readership…hiya Karine :)

HEWD – Day 4

Tuesday…wow.

Sessions were good. We got blown away by a couple today. I have to say that all of our AUD track presenters have been absolutely amazing. Steph and I totally lucked out. You guys rocked the house.

I learned something today. 3″ heels are ok for work, only the truly disturbed wear them at conferences. I’m an idiot. Luckily, this is not my big take-away.

Chris Nixon and I have connected a bit over the last couple of days. Funny that it took a trip to NY to let me finally meet another Arkansas higher ed web geek. I think we’re going to at least attempt a couple of interesting projects, including setting up some type of higher ed web organization for our counterparts statewide.

The announcement was made today that we’re moving the conference to Missouri next year. I’m told they put forth an extraordinary proposal and are apparently uniquely equipped to handle a group of this type/size. I look forward to working on that further.

Club 23 has been a blast…we even got a guy with a lampshade on his head. I say that makes a successful party.

Breakfast is at 7:30 am, and it’s already 2. Flickr shots are up. There has been revenge photo backlash for my shutterbugedness…but hopefully a few pics of me WITHOUT a drink in my hand :)

HEWD – Day 3

Well the first day of regular sessions went swimmingly, at least for the UAD track. I’ve not seen the results of the evaluation forms yet, but comments in Club 23 put Gabriel McGovern ahead in the “best of track” race. We’ll have to see what the number crunchers come up with, and what the competition looks like tomorrow.

I really enjoyed our sessions today. Lori started us off this morning with a really excellent session on usability studies involving parents and new students. We got some great questions and I think a lot of people walked away having active conversations on the topic. Also of note was Dan Frommelt who, as always, did a fantastic job with his universal design piece that he scaled down significantly for our 1 hour time slot. I’d love to see him turn that into a pre or post conference session next year so we can get more info out of him for the price of admission.

“Club 23″ is officially open for business. It’s BYOB this year, but that didn’t keep it from being THE place to be tonight. Dale is scaling back a bit though, he was kickin’ us out at midnight this year…a bit of a reversal from the revelry of last year’s infamous “Club 25″.

I got a lot of questions tonight about the location of HEWD next year. I know nothing folks, and my attempts to find out got me nothing but assurances that it’ll be announced tomorrow. It looks like I’ll find out with the rest of you.

I’ve posted more Flickr pics from today, mostly shots of our little adventure to Dinosaur BBQ. I’m gonna miss that place when it comes time to move the conference, cause I’m not likely to end up in Rochester again for any foreseeable reason.

Tomorrow…I win an iPod.
