What would saving on health care mean to you?

I got an email from MoveOn.org that prompted me to submit an answer to this question. After I spewed forth my frustrated rant into the space provided I decided to share it with all of you.

It would mean I could put money in savings, start to pay off credit cards, and maybe, just maybe, afford to be able to actually GO to the doctor since I still have a deductible and co-pay to worry about.

The ~$1440 I would save could mean I could fix my roof, put new tires on my vehicle, start paying off my student loans, do something about my damaged driveway, eat less hamburger helper, go out with friends occasionally, buy textbooks, buy gas, or buy new glasses since these are several years old. It’d be like a raise since I’m not going to get one this year because the economy tanked.

Pit Bull Myths

I just found this post in my drafts from July of 2007…weird. I’m going to go ahead and post it with a current date (and a few updates).

Pit Bull advocate links:

[original post] I’m a big fan of pit bulls. They’re the most intelligent, loyal, sweet animals I’ve ever come across . I have 2 of them, and I live in mortal terror that some moronic jackass is going to steal them for fighting (it’s common around here) even though I’m pretty sure they’d both be so busy trying to play with the other dog they’d get killed in 30 seconds.

It’s been on my mind a lot lately with the Vick indictment. Anyway, found this on YouTube and it made me cry.

Why I can never call myself a Democrat.

One of the sentiments on the comments of this article was that congress should spend their time dealing with health care and poverty and bloated insurance rates/practices instead of big brother legislation of this type designed to take even more responsibility away from parents (proposed by an Arkansas Democrat….oh the shame), I couldn’t agree more. This is the same congress we’re begging for Net Neutrality legislation (Wikipedia has a great comprehensive entry on the subject.), go figure.

I’m not a [screw the environment] Republican either. I’m more anti-idiocy than anything, and I’m in the [non political lemming] minority for sure.

deceleration of independence

A random question from a long-time client, colleague, and mentor of mine led me to the blog of Scott Berkun who is apparently someone right up my alley, professionally speaking. The thing that caught my eye was a blog entry on Independence Day, you know, July 4th…fireworks and sweaty guys manning grills sporting tank tops and stupid Statue of Liberty hats while perpetually grasping a “cold one”. It occurred to me as I read it that I’ve not really stopped and given a lot of thought to the holiday, even in light of the last several years.

racial politics – 1, free speech – 0

I do not agree with what Don Imus said, I think he’s an idiot for being an insulting jackass on the airwaves. I think the FCC should have stepped up and done something about it. I think the Rutgers ladies bb team had every right to be righteously indignant and furious. I think men like to insult strong successful women at every opportunity. I do not think he should be fired solely for being the same kind of jackass he always is.

If Jesse Jackson and Rev. Sharpton want to get all up in arms about what Imus said they need to step to their own communities and start speaking out about arguably much worse lyrics being spewed forth from the hip-hop community and promoted as “art”. If Diddy had said the exact same thing it would have been very un-newsworthy.

Proof positive that free speech doesn’t apply to all of us anymore.

Fuming over politically (in)correct bullshit wasn’t the way I wanted to mourn Vonnegut today.
